Our poker room started off as T.L.'s Card Room on the fourth floor of the Derby
Club  on January 2, 1996.  At that time, Florida had just passed legislation allowing
all pari-mutuel facilities to operate poker rooms that allowed pots equivalent to
what Floridians could legally play for in their homes.  The maximum pot was
$10.00, so we began by offering $.25-$.50 Seven Card Stud. Our card room had
25 tables which were packed and there was an extensive waiting list! As the seasons
went on, we hoped each season for legislation to pass that would allow our stakes
to be raised.  

In August 2003, a bill was passed allowing all pari-mutuel facilities to increase
their stakes to a maximum bet of $2 with a three raise maximum per round. 
Poker play at Derby Lane with these new limits began on December 8, 2003. 
The new limits were very popular.

Shortly after opening here in December, the State of Florida approved
legislation allowing all pari-mutuel facilities to run poker tournaments. 
With the popularity of the Derby Lane Card Room combined with the current
"poker craze" throughout the nation, the response was incredible!  We now
run daily tournaments averaging over 120 players, multiple "turbo" tournaments of
up to 50 players, occasional special tournament featuring up to 300 players, and
have continuous live action Seven Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo, and Texas Holdem
games from noon to midnight seven days a week. 

In November 2004, we expanded the number of tables to 45, with 30 tables
in the Plaza building and 15 tables in the Derby Club.  In the Plaza building,
we have continuous play from noon to midnight, seven days per week.
